New Coursework for Coaches

Besides learning your X’s and O’s there is now courses that coaches can take to become certified. The National Federation of State High School Association (NFHS) has created an online course for coaches to become certified at a Level III according to the National Council for the Accreditation of Coaching Education. Here is the description of the course from the site:
“This NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Course provides a unique student-centered curriculum for interscholastic teacher/coaches, assisting them in creating a healthy and age appropriate athletic experience that supports the educational mission of our nations schools. Please check with your state association to see if this course complies with your state requirements.”
There is also a first aid course that can be taken as well. I really believe in having some sort of first aid training just in case of some emergency during the course of the game or practice. There is always classes available your local American Red Cross office. Now some states are start to have some training in order to be a coach of any sport let alone football. A good place to start to see if your state has a training program would be to checkout out coaching links page.
I know a lot of football players major in coaching in college so here is the link for the governing body of coaching education, National Council for Accreditation of Coaching Education. This might help in looking up a school to attend in order to become a coach.
