Who Needs An Off-Season?
Dec 10th, 2007 by Coach DeLorm
So the majority of the teams out there are in the off-season now, so what do you do now? Well I guess it all depends on what level of football you are on, but overall the thing every coach needs to focus on is preparing his team for next year. Like the old saying goes championships are won in the off-season. Below are some tips to remember this off-season:
- Make sure to give your players a good two weeks or more off to regroup and heal up.
- Meet with your assistant coaches to break down film from the season. Most of all establish a plan for the spring and reevaluate both sides of the ball. Always keep in mind to adapt your offensive and defensive philosophy around the players rather then what the coaches are comfortable coaching.
- Establish an exciting weight lifting program fro the players. Remember to get the younger players involved if they go to a different school. Focus on just developing stregnth and not so much the football plays. Most players will be involved in other sports which should be encouraged.
- Make sure to develop yourself and the other coaches on your staff by attending coaching clinics. There are many of them and if there is not one close then running one of your own would be a great fundraiser. On the Coaches Forum there is a a list of coaching clinics that could be of some use.
- Running fundraisers to purchase new equipment or other needs of the program.
