Vick: Product of the Gridiron
Aug 17th, 2007 by Coach DeLorm
Well everyone knows about the Mike Vick dog fighting accusations. Well I am here to throw my two cents into the argument. As of today, 8/17, Mike Vick has been told by his lawyers to accept a plea bargain that would involve some jail time. Also if he goes to jail his playing career is over. I hate to tell you I saw this coming, but I did.
Back before Vick came out of high school I was watching that high school spotlight show on ESPN, the one with Melissa Stark as the host. Well anyways even back then you could see that Vick was a star, there was no doubt. But there lies the problem and the clue that led me to believe he would end up never reaching his full potential.
The reason being everyone wanted a piece of the star that was and is mike Vick. So given that fact he was shaped and molded into some one that doesn’t care and knows that he is one of the most gifted athletes on the planet. Normal people look to take advantage of this and exploit the fact that he has money and influence to ride on his coat tales. You can even see how it affected his little brother how Vick was even quoted in saying, that coming out of high school, Marcus was an even better athlete then him. We all all know how that turned out and how much trouble Marcus got into. So where is he now? Exactly.
Both became the product of the system that is inner city football and the college hype machine. Both with different stories, but it looks like both will become the products of the gridiron.
